About
Jennifer King is a theater director known for reimagining Shakespeare’s plays, collaborating with writers on new works, and staging bold contemporary productions across the globe. Her work bridges classical foundations and modern relevance, cultivating a dynamic connection between artists and audiences through a rigorous, playful, and collaborative approach to storytelling.
Dividing her time between the U.S. and Europe, she has created work in the UK, Germany, Poland, and the Czech Republic. Her recent international projects include a Shakespeare performance lab in China, where she directed a Hamlet-inspired exploration with emerging artists.
Notable directing credits include Hurricane Diane and Dry Powder for Aurora Theatre Company; Romeo and Juliet, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Comedy of Errors, and William Shakespeare’s Long Lost First Play (abridged) for Prague Shakespeare Company; Slow Girl for Capital Stage; and As You Like It and Twelfth Night for Shakespeare Napa Valley, where she is the founder and artistic director.
Jennifer is also a tenured professor and chair of Theater Arts at Napa Valley College. Other previous leadership roles include serving as artistic/executive director of Sonoma County Repertory Theater, director of Artistic Learning and associate artist at California Shakespeare Theater, and director of Education and Community Outreach at Dallas Theater Center.'

Current projects include The Burdens by Matt Schatz at the 222 in Healdsburg, CA, running through June 2 and The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe by Jane Wagner, starring Marga Gomez opening July 17 at the Aurora in Berkeley.
Jennifer is also a proud member of the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society.
